Cincinnati Musician and Survivor Shares a Message of Healing And Hope
This is happening all too often in our world today and Kelly Walker is dedicating this song to Survivors of Sexual Assault, in all its forms, to
show support and solidarity and let them know that healing and moving on from Trauma can be achieved.
I Was Lost And Had No Idea What To Do
When Kelly was 17 years old she was attacked while out on a date. It was being in a state of feeling lost and confused that Kelly found Women
Helping Women where she attended support group meetings and received counseling. In this process, her prior abuse surfaced because
of her bravery in opening up it was discovered that she and her siblings were also being abused at home. ”My sister went to them as well after seeing me come out of the fog and received the help she so badly needed as well.”
The Compassion Connection
Kelly received regular calls and checkups to ensure her safety and support. The volunteers at Women Helping Women saved her life and sanity. In her own words: “volunteers called me once a week for two years and helped me step into the light concerning the severe abuse inflicted on me by my father. They made all the difference in my life and gave me the strength to fight for wellness. My sister went to them as well after seeing me come out of the fog and received the help she so badly needed as well.”
Cincy/NKY Take Back the Night Making Strides to Bring Awareness to our Community
Kelly is honored to support The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Take Back the Night, which is celebrating their 30th Annual event on April 11th at
Gobel Park in Covington, Ohio. This event’s three main sponsors are Women Helping Women, The Women’s Crisis Center and the YWCA of Cincinnati, however many agencies serving Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence are on the planning committee and help put on the event.
“They gave us a way to heal ourselves, our ancestors and humanity by showing others that you are not just a survivor, you are a light, lesson,
and hope for the future.”
