You’re Not Alone
You’re Not Alone by Kara Kuper
My name is Kara Kuper, I am 19 years old and going into my sophomore year of college at Kent State University. This is my song, You’re Not Alone
On November 7th, 2015, I was diagnosed with Leukemia. I was scared, overwhelmed and fearful of what this all meant because I was only 15 years old. I was involved in so many school activities like cheerleading and track and I had passions like singing and acting too.
My Life Was Just Begining
My life was just beginning, yet it was falling apart right before my eyes.
I was admitted to the hospital the day we got the call about my diagnosis. Then stayed in the hospital getting chemotherapy for 2 and a half weeks before being able to go home. I then got chemotherapy treatment once a week until the summer of 2016. After that, I started once a month treatment until January of 2018, my senior year of high school. I was petrified of what was happening to me, what was going to happen, and why me.
Not Alone Through Great Hardship
After being diagnosed, my community came together, supported me and helped me through this fight. They made me feel not alone throughout my journey. Even though the support has helped tremendously, music and singing have always been the positivity that has helped me stay positive throughout my fight. I have always loved singing and after being diagnosed I started songwriting. I started writing songs about my experiences through this journey and writing the real, raw feelings I have felt.
The Healing Power Of Music
I believe music is therapy to many people and I want to be able to provide powerful messages and stories through my music. I hope to someday be a voice for those that might have gone through something similar to me or is going through hard times and tell them that they are not alone, and they will get through this.
